Colloborative Work

Today we brainstormed problems within groups. Some of our ideas were:

• Someone is too bossy and dominates the conversation.
• Some people are off-task.
• One or two people do all the work.

The 5/6s worked in groups to come up with solutions to these problems.  All of the groups came up with respectful ways to deal with problems with group members.  They decided to come to me only if their own solutions didn’t work first. 

Once the group work parameters were set the groups had to answer this question:

Is it ever right to do the wrong thing?

There was some interesting conversation around this topic!  The students ideas will be on their own blogs next week and we are hoping to generate lots of comments and discussion with this meaty topic.   I borrowed this idea from a friend of colleague of mine, Heidi Siwak. 

We also learned how to write a reading log.  The students will be handing one reading log in every week.  Mr. B., our student teacher, wrote an example.  Mr. B heads back to North Bay tonight but he will be back in October. 

In math most students finished up their formative assessment which I will be looking at over the weekend.
